Here's the Plan

A good friend of mine doesn't like Christmas music.

I find this tragic.

My mission (and I chose to accept it since I assigned it to myself): send her one Christmas song a day starting the day after Thanksgiving (I listen to it earlier - and right this second - but she refuses to do so and I will respect that) all the way until (and including) Christmas day.

I have a list of four songs and artists I would like to include, three artists who I'm going to include but I don't know which song yet, and one song with no artist selected.

At this point, I'm taking suggestions. Comment, text, facebook message, whatever - let me know your favorite Christmas song(s). I reserve the right to refuse. (: But I will listen to each suggestion.

I'm going to try to convert this girl to Christmas music - or at least some of it.

Here's one of the songs I'm going to include -

Oh, and I figure I may as well post them to my blog the day I email them.
Just so I have a record. (:

Anything Michael Buble. The forgotten Carols. My favorite is a song by Faith Hill called "A Baby Changes everything." I'm also pretty partial to N'SYNC Christmas too.

I love Christmas music! There are some songs that are over played and I could do without. There are some obnoxious ones too. But, overall I love them!

I start listening to Christmas music earlier and earlier every year it seems like. But, I do not like to hear it playing in the mall or department stores until December. I feel like the only reason they play it is to remind you to buy Christmas presents....for commercial purposes not for the spirit of the season.

I love the Elf soundtrack, especially, Baby it's cold outside. I also love Pennies from heaven on that album...but, I don't know that that is a Christmas song.

My all time favorite christmas hymn is I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day. It's a cool song but much more meaningful and powerful when you know the story behind it. About as powerful as hearing the story behind the writing of the Star Spangled Banner. Here's a youtube clip of Ed Herman telling the story and the Mo Tab singing and ringing bells. It can be a little cheesy I guess but I love it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXfzp296zhA

I looked up other versions of this song and I like our hymn book version the best. Referring to the tune I mean.

I also love the old Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra versions of lots of the Christmas songs.

I love the Barbara Streisand Christmas album. Some people don't just because she is Jewish but, that woman has an awesome/FUN version of Jingle Bells. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2lRSk0MWAY

I just copied this huge comment and I'm going to paste it into a post for my blog....sorry! Good topic though!

Babs also does a mesmerizing version My Favorite Things...which isn't necessarily a Christmas song but it is played at Christmas a lot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsJQNYa2vts&feature=related

That is so saddening. But I guess I can understand to an extent because some songs are truly awful, and most get totally overplayed. But overall, I love this time of year and listening to Christmas music! I agree with the Michael Buble comment, and I also love anything by Ella Fitzgerald. Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is a classic as well (though that one definitely gets overplayed). I'll have to keep thinking of more!

Oh, and how could I forget? O Christmas Tree by the Vince Guaraldi Trio (from A Charlie Brown Christmas) always puts me in the holiday mood!
