A Peek Into My Current Playlist

I've been listening to Christina Perri Radio on Pandora lately. I like it. A lot. So the other day I downloaded (for free! - thank you music junk app) various songs from a few of the artists that kept popping up that I really liked. The main three - Christina Perri, Sara Bareilles, and Adele (which then led to a few mash-ups from Glee - which I don't watch anymore because it's a pretty trashy show, but I do like some of their songs). From the songs that I downloaded, here are my current favorites:

i don't think i can accurately express my love of the disco skating parts in this video.

Yesterday while driving home from work with Nate and listening to some of these songs (some that I had listened to on the way to work too) I realized that a lot of them are kind of... man-hater songs. Or bitter women songs. Or something along those lines. For the record, I don't hate men and I'm not bitter. But I do really enjoy these songs. (:

But sorry, Nate, for subjecting you to this. Thanks for being such a good sport!

Here's the Plan

A good friend of mine doesn't like Christmas music.

I find this tragic.

My mission (and I chose to accept it since I assigned it to myself): send her one Christmas song a day starting the day after Thanksgiving (I listen to it earlier - and right this second - but she refuses to do so and I will respect that) all the way until (and including) Christmas day.

I have a list of four songs and artists I would like to include, three artists who I'm going to include but I don't know which song yet, and one song with no artist selected.

At this point, I'm taking suggestions. Comment, text, facebook message, whatever - let me know your favorite Christmas song(s). I reserve the right to refuse. (: But I will listen to each suggestion.

I'm going to try to convert this girl to Christmas music - or at least some of it.

Here's one of the songs I'm going to include -

Oh, and I figure I may as well post them to my blog the day I email them.
Just so I have a record. (:

My New Theme Song

I heard this on the radio for the first time tonight (and thanks to the song identifier app on my droid I was able to figure out what the name of it was!). It's now on a couple of playlists, and it's my ringtone. Let's just say I kinda like it.

I read a few of the comments on youtube about the video.
My favorite one:
'Everything about Darius Rucker says chill.'
Love it.
And I agree.

This song kind of reminds me of the broken
road song by Rascal Flatts,
I've never really liked that one though
(I have my reasons but they'll take too long to explain).
If you're interested, ask me sometime. (:

Love It!

I heard this song on the radio tonight and forgot how much I like it.

They do kind of a weird key change thing, but I really like the dancing guy.

And here's the no key change version.

It's (almost) Christmastime!

I listen to Christmas music whenever I feel like it. Including middle of the summer sometimes. I just love it. A lot. Here are a couple of my favorites:

I know I've put this one on my blog before, but it's going to go up every year.
I don't even really like the song 'Little Drummer Boy' that much
(though it is growing on me).
But I love this version.
And I love that Bing Crosby sings with David Bowie.
It just seems like such an odd pairing to me.
But they sound so good together.

So Funny

The first one is kind of long, but it's really funny.

They both are.

Funny, that is.

**disclaimer**
there are a couple of times I don't understand what they're saying
if you hear a swear word that I missed, sorry!
after listening to it a few more times, I'm pretty sure I get it.
mute it from 2:47 to 2:49 and you'll avoid it. (:

Today...

... while driving to and from work I listened to Billy Joel.
And remembered his concert.
And loved it.

An Awesome Way to Spend a Friday Night

Last night I finally went to the Billy Joel / Elton John concert. It was worth the wait. And worth all the pennies I spent to get there.

It was so fun to see these two men perform. They've been doing this for so long and you can tell that they love it. And they're so good at it.

Some fun surprises:
There was no intermission
- they started singing together, Elton John then took the stage, Billy Joel came in after, and they ended together -
(so they got their break, and I didn't want one)
I had no idea that Billy Joel played the guitar
I had no idea that Billy Joel played the guitar during "We Didn't Start the Fire"
Billy Joel looked as comfortable dancing around with a mic stand as he did sitting at the piano
Billy Joel dances while playing the piano sometimes (rocking in his seat to the beat)
Their voices sound the same as they do in their years-old recordings (this wasn't as much a surprise as it was just fun to see that they sound the same way as they did when I was a pre-teen)
Our seats were on the very back row (this may be seen as a negative, but we were sitting to the side of the stage and had a great view of the screen, plus, we could get up and dance - which we did. a lot. - and not bother anyone)
Though I'm not super-familiar with Elton John's stuff, he's amazingly talented and really fun to watch (again, the talent part - not surprising)
Billy Joel apologized for having to reschedule the concert
- thank you for that Billy
Elton John rarely spoke in between his songs, but Billy Joel would pause between almost all of them and talk to us

I would definitely go again.
I hope to go again sometime.

So Close I Can Taste It!

Remember this?

Closely followed by this?

Well... in 18 days...

... I'll be seeing this:

Due to the schedule change, my friend Emily could no longer go.

Today I found a friend who could.

I'm so excited.

So, so, very much excited.

This Morning-

-I woke up with this song in my head:
(specifically the part that begins around 1:34)

Determined to listen to it in the car on my ipod, I was extremely disappointed to see that somehow after having to redo my playlists, it didn't make it back on.

I made do with this one:

:which I also love, so it turned out okay.
(perhaps I should take it as a good sign that I belted out the song while alone in the car)

And don't worry, I've had my fix of the other song now.

I'm good.

Sixty to Zero in Twenty-Five Hours

In the last couple months or so I've had a few interactions with a guy that I've become interested in (the interest didn't all happen in the last few months, because I've known him for a while, it's just developed a little bit more). We'll call him Johnny. I asked Johnny out (which I absolutely hate, hate, hate to do, but it doesn't mean I never do it - unfortunately), we went out, had a lot of fun but there wasn't any follow-up from either of us and I didn't see him until this past week. This last time I saw Johnny wasn't in a date setting, but we talked quite a bit and things seemed to be going well. After parting ways, a friend who had been with me said that she was pretty sure he was interested in me (based on a few observations, and the situation itself - which I don't want to go into detail about). At the advice of a couple friends (one of them male, who I asked advice from), I texted Johnny to kind of follow-up with things and encourage him a bit.

That was at 4:30 pm.

Yesterday.

Nothing back.

Zero.

Zilch.

Nada.

And it's not like it was a text that may or may not have been needing a response. I asked him a question for goodness sake.

However, I'm sure that it was just coincidental that while listening to music on a walk I sang more energetically to this song -

- than to this one -

ps - I'm loving the boots on the guitarist and the blond

Purely coincidental.

ps - I've given up on Johnny.

I Need to Listen to Her More Often

she soothes me.

can't understand a word she's saying,
but I love it.

I pretty much love this whole cd.

): ): ):

An hour or so after I posted my excitement for tomorrow's concert, I found out...

it's POSTPONED.

All I heard was that it was going to be rescheduled early next year.

Emily (my co-concert-goer) and I were hoping that it would not be rescheduled in February as she is going to be married on 13 February.

Then I saw Heather's comment (thanks again, Heather) that got me to the venue site saying it was rescheduled for 19 Feb.

Emily can't go.

I'm looking for another co-concert-goer.

Reason for the cancellation - Elton John has swine flu and e coli, and Billy Joel recently came down with a "mysterious illness."

I hope neither one of them dies.

we bought our tickets in August.
this doubles my anticipation time.
i'm not so fond of that.

Tomorrow

I'm so excited.

I Want to go to There

Sometimes I hear music and want to go to where the music is.

This soundtrack has a lot of pieces I hear that I feel that way about.

Here's an example:

My Name Was On The Radio

This morning while in the car with my dad on our way to work we heard this question:

What is the most northern state in the country?

My dad said, and I agreed with, Alaska (I think it's one of those questions where you think they're trying to trick you... Maine... or Washington... (I looked at a map and it looks like Washington has a corner that goes higher than Maine) and then when you hear the answer you feel kind of dumb).

It was for a pair of Air Supply tickets. My parents had gone the last time Air Supply was here and have been talking about going again.

I got my phone out and told my dad he should call.

He was sure that someone else would have gotten the answer already but I pointed out that when I won Beatlemania tickets a couple of weeks ago (for knowing that "definitely" was one of the most misspelled words - I had heard them say it on the radio the day before they asked that question - don't worry, I have pictures and video to add to my blog later) we could hear them giving out tickets to more than one person.

I dialed. Got ready to hand him the phone. But he told me to do the talking.

She answered asking if I had an answer and I said, "Alaska." She got my information and told me I'd have tickets to Air Supply to pick up at the station.

Turns out, they only had one winner this time.

They gave my name as the winner (I'm so glad they didn't playback my phone call).

A joint effort by me and my dad.

a more recent picture of them.
doesn't the one in the pink kind of look like the lead singer of Rascal Flatts?
