A Peek Into My Current Playlist

I've been listening to Christina Perri Radio on Pandora lately. I like it. A lot. So the other day I downloaded (for free! - thank you music junk app) various songs from a few of the artists that kept popping up that I really liked. The main three - Christina Perri, Sara Bareilles, and Adele (which then led to a few mash-ups from Glee - which I don't watch anymore because it's a pretty trashy show, but I do like some of their songs). From the songs that I downloaded, here are my current favorites:

i don't think i can accurately express my love of the disco skating parts in this video.

Yesterday while driving home from work with Nate and listening to some of these songs (some that I had listened to on the way to work too) I realized that a lot of them are kind of... man-hater songs. Or bitter women songs. Or something along those lines. For the record, I don't hate men and I'm not bitter. But I do really enjoy these songs. (:

But sorry, Nate, for subjecting you to this. Thanks for being such a good sport!

Still Obsessed...

Have you checked out the eagles yet? Totally worth it if you haven't. I (still) kind of love watching them.

Here's proof in screenshots:
i love the profile

eating a fish

then she laid eggs!
first there were two...

now they have three!

Now is a really good time to look at the webcam if you want to actually see them. Because they're taking turns laying on the eggs, you'll always see one of them there. It's also fun to hear when one starts screeching and then you'll see the other come and they'll switch places.

I'm Somewhat Shocked

But I guess there are more idiots (or, to be less-offensive - more 'uninformed individuals') out there than I'd care to admit.

A member of a coalition that I'm on just sent this out -

To vote online go to costcoconnection.com and click on 'informed debate' in the contents column on the left.

I did this.

And found this -

Really people? Really? Some states have tried this. Bad things happen. Non-medical marijuana use increases. People figure if it's being used as medicine it can't be that bad for me. (NOT TRUE). And it still counts as a gateway drug. Use marijuana... and move on to using other drugs. Not always. I know there are plenty of stories starting with, 'I used marijuana and never...' or 'My friend used for years and never...' Okay. Fine. But it's called a gateway drug because there are plenty of people who move on to the harder more serious drugs.

Marijuana isn't safe. It isn't good for you. There are harmful effects to the body that come from using the drug.

The argument that you're taking away the appeal because it's no longer illegal doesn't work either. Proof - those states who have made it legal. Like I said before, their rates of non-medical use have increased.

And - depending on your opinion of the federal gov't this could possibly influence your thinking either way - it's against federal law. States that are legalizing marijuana are going against federal law. Meaning the feds can come in and bust up the dispensaries. And I hope they do.

And, for those who argue that everyone has a right to choose if they want to use marijuana or not and you're taking away the freedom to choose. Let me just say - LAWS LIMIT FREEDOMS. That's what they do. ALL laws. You can still choose whether or not you want to obey that law, and if you don't, then you open yourself up to having to face the consequences that come from not obeying the law. We have laws to help keep us safe as a society. Sure, I might not want to stop at every stop sign that I come to on my way to work. But if I don't, I risk getting into an accident putting myself and others at risk. It's taking away my freedom to just keep going. But it's worth it.

So go to the website and vote.

But only if your vote is 'No.'

(just kidding. ... kind of.) (:

My Grandmother is Pretty Amazing

proof here. (:

Yesterday vs. Today

Yesterday I was raving about breakfast as if it was something I had created. In fact, on more than one occasion I used the word 'discovered' when I was talking to friends about it. (I have a goal this week to eat breakfast daily.)

Today I woke up too late to make anything before leaving. My stomach was really not happy with me when I got to work this morning.

Yesterday I had more than 5,000 steps before leaving my house at 6:40 in the morning. (Another goal is to get 10,000 steps a day.)

Today I left the house with somewhere between 100 and 200 steps.

Yesterday my dog woke me up at 4:30, and planning to get up at 5, I stayed awake.

Today I woke up at 4:30 wondering where my dog was, and planning to get up at 5, I went back to sleep (after finding him) and didn't wake up until after 6.

Yesterday I watched this video and wanted to really, really do it.

Today I watched that video and wanted to really, really do it.

I guess not everything changes.

That Much Closer...

... not talking about my thesis, but I am 'that much closer' on that too...

Today I dropped Max off at the vet around 7 am and picked him up around 5:30 after my late meeting. I felt bad leaving him there all day, but I think he handled it like a champ. Although he was *very* excited to see me and looked ready to jump over the counter to get to me when they brought him out.

But what he's closer to is becoming a therapy dog. I've been thinking about it for a while and finally decided to take the steps to make it happen. I think he'd be great at it - he loves all people, and especially kids, and has such a sweet temperament (until blogger corrected me just now, I would have spelled that 'temperment'). As the vet wrote on his 'report card' - 'he is quite the charmer!'

I've taught him two new tricks (using great videos from this guy) in the last four days and despite my initial - 'I think he might be dumb.' reaction when starting with the first trick, he's doing very well and I think he's actually pretty smart. (: I became really impressed after teaching him 'leave it' when I saw that even when I gave the command after he'd lunge for it, he'd back off without eating it.

After I think he's trained enough, I'll be in touch with someone who can certify him as a therapy dog. Here's hoping he qualifies! I think it would be a great experience for me - and for him. (:
